Donor Designated Funds

Donor Designated funds at the Community Foundation of Utah allow donors to choose a specific nonprofit organization and direct your grantmaking to that organization alone. Alternatively, a designated fund allows you to specify multiple nonprofit organizations that are of particular interest to you.

If one of the nonprofits changes its mission or type of services, or if it closes down, the program staff at the foundation directs your grantmaking to a comparable organization. Your philanthropic legacy continues to do the work you intended.

Not only do you support the organizations of your choice — you ensure that your gift will remain relevant over time.

  1. The organizations you specify benefit from your fund.
  2. We will redirect your grant dollars if one of the organizations you have specified changes its mission or closes down.
  3. The organizations or issues that you designate will be monitored by our team to ensure that your grant dollars are being used in an optimal manner.
  4. You don't have to worry about remembering to make grants each year. Your fund can be set up to award quarterly or annual grants to your favorite organizations.
  5. Designated funds can accept donations of almost any asset, including stock and real estate.

Establishing a fund is easy. You can download this form, or give us a call and we'll help you get started.
